Kieran McKenna's promotion-chasing side controlled large stretches of the contest, especially before the break, but were repeatedly thwarted by an inspired Carl Rushworth. Coventry improved in patches after half-time and briefly threatened to wrestle the game away, yet once Clarke's deflected strike broke the deadlock with 18 minutes left, Ipswich never looked back. Burns added a poignant second 11 minutes later on just his second appearance since a serious knee injury, tightening the visitors' grip on the automatic promotion race.
