Derby County survived a torrent of Middlesbrough chances before Bobby Clark's first goal in English league football earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Pride Park. The RB Salzburg loanee showed the composure that Boro lacked, drilling low past Sol Brynn midway through the second half after the visitors had dominated for long spells without reward.
The result extends Middlesbrough's scoreless run to four Championship matches, three of them defeats, and sees Kim Hellberg's side slip out of the automatic promotion places and down to third, nine points behind leaders Coventry City. For Derby, it was a first home win since November 4 and only a second success in eight games, halting their own three-match winless sequence and moving them to within five points of the play-off spots.
Boro Dominate Early but Meet the Zetterstrom Wall
Middlesbrough were on the front foot from the opening minutes and should have been ahead well before the interval. In the eighth minute, Delano Burgzorg slipped Hayden Hackney through on goal and the midfielder tried to lift the ball delicately over Jacob Widell Zetterstrom, only for the Derby keeper to stand tall and make the block. It set the tone for an afternoon in which the Swede repeatedly frustrated the visitors.
