Manchester City needed a stoppage-time goal to beat Bournemouth 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium, Marc Guéhi's 83rd-minute header and Josko Gvardiol's follow-up turning what had looked for long spells like defeat into victory in Enzo Maresca's first home match in charge since succeeding Pep Guardiola.
Marcus Tavernier put Bournemouth ahead in the 25th minute, and Marco Rose's Bournemouth came close to becoming the first team to win away at Manchester City.
City were wasteful either side of that setback despite dominating the ball: Phil Foden, as ineffective in front of goal as Erling Haaland, was replaced by Jack Grealish in the 82nd minute, with the hosts, who finished with 66% possession and 13 shots to Bournemouth's five, still behind.
The turnaround came in a seven-minute burst. Rayan Cherki, on as a second-half substitute, swung in a corner that deflected off Adrien Truffert into Guéhi's path, and his header beat Djordje Petrovic in the 83rd minute. Cherki then supplied Gvardiol in the box, and after an initial offside flag was overturned on video review, the winner stood in the 90th minute.
