Chelsea cruised into the FA Cup semi-finals as Port Vale's storybook run was ended in ruthless fashion at Stamford Bridge, Liam Rosenior's side hammering the League One bottom club 7-0 to book a Wembley date.
Port Vale, 15 points from safety in League One, had reached the last eight for the first time in 72 years by knocking out Premier League Sunderland. But against a Chelsea XI valued at £439.8m against Vale's free transfers and loan signings, the gap in class was always likely to tell, and so it proved emphatically.
A 64-Second Blow
Any prospect of an upset was effectively squashed after just 64 seconds when Jorrel Hato poked home from close range. Pedro Neto's corner sparked panic and a goalmouth scramble, with goalkeeper Joe Gauci punching poorly and Hato swiping the breaking ball into the net.
