Charlton sign Wrexham goalkeeper Okonkwo on season-long loan

· Transfer News

Charlton Athletic have signed the goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo on a season-long loan from Wrexham, the Championship club's eighth signing of the summer.

Okonkwo, 24, came through Arsenal's academy and had loan spells at Crewe Alexandra and Sturm Graz before joining Wrexham on loan in 2023, with the move made permanent a year later. He went on to become the club's first-choice goalkeeper, helping them to back-to-back promotions from League Two to the Championship.

The move follows Wrexham's signing of goalkeeper Anthony Patterson from Sunderland on a four-year deal this month, after mixed campaigns from both Okonkwo and Danny Ward last season. Okonkwo, who was entering the final year of his contract, was left out of Wrexham's squad for their Championship opener against Cardiff City.

He made 39 Championship appearances for Wrexham last season and has kept 46 clean sheets in 121 games for the club overall.
