Charlton Athletic came from behind to beat Derby County 2-1 at The Valley as the Championship's opening round of fixtures was played out. The win lifts Charlton to 6th with three points from their opening game; Derby drop to 17th after an opening-day defeat.
Derby led through Sam Szmodics, who finished an assist from Carlton Morris in the 22nd minute, but Szmodics was forced off with an injury in the 53rd minute, replaced by Alex Mowatt. Charlton drew level through Lloyd Jones in the 60th minute, set up by Karlan Grant, before Tyreece Campbell put the hosts ahead in the 79th minute.
Three cautions were shown, all to Derby players: Sondre Langås and Alex Mowatt were both booked for fouls, in the 59th and 89th minutes respectively, and Rhian Brewster was booked for dissent in stoppage time. Both sides used all five of their permitted substitutions.
