Charlton Athletic have signed the midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah on a free transfer, ending a search for a new club that began when Sheffield Wednesday released him this summer.
The 31-year-old had been training with the Addicks over the summer, one of eight players released by Wednesday following their relegation to League One. He becomes manager Nathan Jones' sixth signing of the window.
Chalobah's career spans 14 years and includes spells at Watford, Fulham, West Bromwich Albion and Serie A side Torino, taking in more than 270 appearances, plus caps for England at youth and senior level. He made 31 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday across the past two seasons.
"I've been training for a while now with the boys and it's a good group of lads. I'm just glad the season's about to start and we can get down to business," Chalobah said. "I'm looking to bring my experience not only to the young players, but to everyone in the building really to see if we can achieve something together."
