Celtic have signed the Egypt international winger Haissem Hassan from Real Oviedo, in a deal that could rise to £9m. Hassan has signed a four-year contract, with the option of a further year, after completing his medical in London. The clubs have agreed an initial fee of around £6m, with a further £3m in add-ons, a significant part of which is tied to Celtic reaching the league phase of the Champions League this month.
There is time for Hassan to be registered for Celtic's Champions League play-off against LASK Linz next week; the deadline to register players is Thursday, with the option to add two more before Tuesday. He is Celtic's third summer signing, following the forwards Camilo Duran and Kasper Hogh.
Hassan raised his profile at this summer's World Cup with Egypt. He came on as a substitute in the last-32 penalty shootout win over Australia, then started against Argentina in the last 16, setting up Mostafa Zico's goal that put Egypt 2-0 up before a driving run from deep fed Mohamed Salah, who teed up Zico for Egypt's disallowed goal in a 3-2 defeat. Left-footed but often used on the right, the 24-year-old made 38 appearances for Real Oviedo last season, contributing three assists, having joined the club in 2024 following loan spells at Mirandes and Sporting Gijon after starting his senior career at Villarreal.
"I know I'm joining a big club, the biggest club in Scotland, and I'm really looking forward to taking the next step," Hassan said.
