Cardiff Edge Welsh Derby to Reach EFL Cup Last Eight

— Match Report

Cardiff City booked their place in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup with a 2-1 victory over fellow Welsh side Wrexham at the Stok Cae Ras, securing Welsh bragging rights in the first meeting between the two clubs in more than 21 years.

Yousef Salech tapped in an early opener for the League One visitors before substitute Kieffer Moore equalised against his former club early in the second half. Will Fish then volleyed home what proved to be the decisive goal in the 71st minute to send Brian Barry-Murphy's side into the last eight for the first time since they reached the 2011-12 final.

Bluebirds Set the Tone

Cardiff dominated possession from the outset, with every pass jeered by the home support, but the visitors were undeterred. They had four shots on target inside the opening 20 minutes as a disjointed Wrexham side were pushed back into their own defensive third.
