Discipline shaped the closing stages: Cardiff's Joel Colwill, on since the 58th minute, was booked for a foul in the 82nd, and Swindon's James Debayo, introduced at the same point, was shown two yellow cards of his own, in the 84th and 90th minutes, the second reducing Swindon to ten men. Moylan's introduction for Ollie Tanner in the 72nd minute proved decisive, the substitute striking the winner five minutes later.
