Leeds United took a giant step towards Premier League survival as an emphatic 3-1 victory over already-relegated Burnley moved Daniel Farke's side nine points clear of the relegation zone. Anton Stach's early long-range strike set the tone before second-half goals from Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin made the points safe at Elland Road.
The win lifted Leeds to 14th and onto 43 points, a tally with which no team has ever been relegated in a 38-game Premier League season. Loum Tchaouna pulled one back for the managerless Clarets in the 71st minute, but it was little more than a consolation on a night that turned into a party in the stands as the home supporters celebrated all but securing another year in the top flight.
Stach Sets the Tone From Distance
Passed fit to start after an ankle injury that had kept him out, Stach needed only eight minutes to settle the contest's early nerves. Jaka Bijol rolled the ball to the Germany midfielder in a central position around 25 to 30 yards from goal, and Stach arrowed a low strike inside Martin Dubravka's left-hand post. It was a relatively clean effort that lacked ferocity, with Dubravka criticised for reacting slowly, but the finish was no less significant for that.
