George Byers' second-half penalty gave Port Vale their first win of the season, a 1-0 victory over Exeter City at Vale Park on Saturday.
The hosts began the afternoon bottom of League Two and without a win, while Exeter arrived having scored just four goals all season. Byers converted in the 69th minute after Luca Woodhouse fouled Jordan Gabriel in the box, and Exeter failed to register a shot on target.
A Cautious First Half
Neither side had scored freely this season and chances were scarce before the break. Exeter's Reece Cole went close with a curled effort, Jaheim Headley drilled narrowly wide for Vale, and a Vale break ended with a Kyle Dempsey corner that found no one and struck the foot of the far post.
