Burnley needed a penalty shootout to see off League Two opposition in this English League Cup second-round tie at Turf Moor, beating Notts County 4-3 on penalties after 90 minutes finished level at 1-1. Callum Roberts put Notts County ahead in the 41st minute, and Burnley levelled within a minute of the restart when Zian Flemming scored in the 46th. Neither side found a second goal in normal time, sending the tie straight to penalties.
Burnley had much the better of the ball, 73.7% possession to Notts County's 26.3%, and finished with 12 attempts on goal to the visitors' six, four of them on target against two. James Gibbons, Darius Lipsiuc and Jack Evans were booked for Notts County; James Belshaw and Flemming were also shown yellow cards, both during the shootout. Burnley made a triple substitution in the 66th minute, sending on Zeki Amdouni, Josh Laurent and Connor Roberts, with further changes on both sides either side of the 80th minute.
In the shootout, Notts County's Emile Acquah and Jacob Bedeau both had penalties saved, as did Burnley's Hannibal Mejbri, before Kyle Walker converted the decisive fifth kick to send Burnley through 4-3.
