Ipswich Town took full advantage of Swansea City's worst home display of the season, running out 4-1 winners at the Swansea.com Stadium on a surreal afternoon dominated by former Tractor Boys defender Cameron Burgess' two own goals. Jack Clarke's first-half strike, a close-range header from Ivan Azon and a pair of heavy deflections off Burgess overpowered Goncalo Franco's equaliser and extended Ipswich's impressive unbeaten run.
Franco briefly hauled Swansea level five minutes after the interval following head coach Alan Sheehan's double change and formation tweak at the break, igniting hopes of a comeback after a passive, error-strewn first half. Yet Ipswich punished another Swansea turnover as Leif Davis' low effort was diverted in by Burgess, before Azon and a second own goal from the centre-back completed a second successive 4-1 away victory for Kieran McKenna's side and dropped the hosts to 18th in the Championship.
Ipswich Take Charge As Swansea Lose Their Way Early
McKenna made six changes from the midweek draw with Watford in search of greater attacking balance and saw his reworked side take control almost immediately. Ipswich carried the greater threat in the opening 45 minutes, registering five attempts to Swansea's one, as Kasey McAteer and Davis repeatedly picked out dangerous areas from either flank and forced the home defence ever deeper.
