Reading beat Bromley 5-4 on penalties after their League Cup second-round tie finished 1-1 at the Copperjax Community Stadium. Josh Stokes put Reading ahead in the 13th minute; Michael Cheek levelled for Bromley in the 32nd minute, and the scores stayed level from there.
Bromley were reduced to ten men when Richard Taylor, booked for a foul in the 68th minute, was shown a second yellow for another foul in the 89th minute. Ethon Archer was also booked for Bromley, in the 97th minute, and Randell Williams picked up a yellow for Reading in the 100th minute.
With the scores still level, the tie went to penalties. Reading converted all five of their kicks, through Lewis Wing, Charlie Savage, Jack Marriott, Liam Fraser and Randell Williams. Bromley scored four, through Victor Adeboyejo, JJ McKiernan, Marcus Ifill and Kamil Conteh, but Archer's fifth kick was saved, sending Reading through 5-4. Reading had 58.6% of possession and finished with five shots on target from 16 attempts; Bromley managed three on target from 15.
