Wrexham struck in each half to see off play-off chasers Bristol City 2-0 at the SToK Cae Ras, extending their unbeaten league run to seven matches and moving to within touching distance of the Championship's top six. Nathan Broadhead's stunning first-half strike set the tone before a bizarre late own goal off goalkeeper Radek Vitek, from a George Thomason corner, finally put the contest to bed.
The result continued Wrexham's resurgence, lifting them from 15th at kick-off to 10th in the table and securing a fourth consecutive home league win, as Arthur Okonkwo and his defence again preserved a clean sheet. For Bristol City, it was only a second away defeat in the league this season but a costly one, dropping the Robins to seventh and denying them the chance to climb into the top four on a night when they squandered a string of promising openings.
Broadhead's moment of quality ignites an open contest
Phil Parkinson made two changes from the side that had dug out a backs-to-the-wall 0-0 draw at Ipswich Town, restoring Kieffer Moore after injury and handing Broadhead a start in place of Josh Windass, with Sam Smith also dropping out. Whereas Wrexham had largely absorbed pressure at Portman Road, here they were determined to seize the initiative early and quickly pushed Bristol City back.
