Bristol City sign free agent Adebayo from Luton

Bristol City have signed the striker Elijah Adebayo on a two-year deal, following his release by Luton Town this summer.

Adebayo arrived at Luton from Walsall in 2021, and scored 47 goals in 184 appearances during five years at the club, helping fire them to Premier League promotion in 2023. He stayed among the goals once there too, finishing the 2023-24 top-flight campaign with 10 goals from 27 appearances, a tally that included the club's first ever Premier League hat-trick, struck in a 4-0 win over Brighton.

Injury disrupted the end of Adebayo's Luton career. A cruciate ligament injury suffered in April 2025 sidelined him until March this year, and a hip complaint in his very next match ruled him out for the rest of the campaign, during which Luton missed out on the League One play-off places. He had been expected to sign a new contract when the club published its retained list in May, but was instead released this summer.

The move to Ashton Gate is Bristol City manager Michael Skubala's 10th signing of the summer. "We know what a good player Elijah is and he gives us something different going forward," Skubala said. "We have all got to know him in pre-season and we are excited to have him as part of the group."
