Dom Ballard's header in the 30th minute gave Bristol City a 1-0 win over Watford in the Championship on Friday night, ending a run of two straight league defeats. Rio Cardines swung in the cross at Ashton Gate and Ballard rose with his back to goal to guide the ball into the corner.

Michael Skubala made seven changes after the home loss to Lincoln City and the 4-1 defeat at Southampton, and his side held Watford out. The win took City to 13 points from eight league games, with four wins, a draw and three defeats.

Watford, who also lost to Stoke City in their previous league game, have taken one point from four away league games this season. They were beaten without scoring for the third successive time on their travels.
