Bristol City's afternoon was compounded by a first-half sending-off: Adam Randell was booked for a foul in the 22nd minute and shown a second yellow for another foul in the 35th, leaving the hosts a man short for the last hour of the game. Millwall picked up two cautions of their own, Coburn for simulation in the 14th minute and Jenson Metcalfe for handball in the 44th.
Millwall made the extra man tell, finishing with 66% possession and 24 attempts on goal to Bristol City's eight.
