Middlesbrough produced a ruthless display at Loftus Road, dismantling Queens Park Rangers 4-0 to tighten their grip on second place and send another powerful message in the Championship promotion race.
David Strelec's controversial opener set the tone before Alan Browne and captain Hayden Hackney struck in the second half, and substitute Tommy Conway added an 88th-minute penalty. For QPR, a third consecutive heavy defeat without scoring leaves them marooned in mid-table, their once-promising play-off push all but extinguished.
Fortuitous Strelec Strike Puts Boro in Control
Boro settled more quickly, their passing and movement immediately stretching QPR's defensive shape. The breakthrough arrived in the 20th minute in chaotic and contentious fashion. Hayden Hackney threaded a clever pass into Riley McGree on the left, and the Australian drove a low ball across the box towards Morgan Whittaker. His first effort was miscued, but when the ball ricocheted back to him off QPR defender Rhys Norrington-Davies, his second stab cannoned off Strelec, who was stationed on the goal-line, and over the line via the forward's elbow.
