Bradford City opened their League One season with a 2-0 win over Peterborough United at Valley Parade. Macaulay Gillesphey put the Bantams ahead in the 53rd minute, and substitute Nick Powell doubled the lead in the 74th, two minutes after coming on for Jake Beesley. Bradford had much the better of the ball, finishing with 52.1% possession and 17 attempts on goal to Peterborough's seven, five on target against Peterborough's two.
Peterborough's afternoon soured further in the closing stages: David Okagbue, cautioned for a foul in the 21st minute, was shown a second yellow for another foul in the 84th and sent off. Kayden Jackson (45th minute) and Adam Phillips (75th) were also booked for Bradford, and Evan Weir (65th) for Peterborough. Bradford made four changes, including half-time substitute Bobby Pointon and Powell's introduction ahead of the second goal; Peterborough used four substitutes of their own, three of them together just after the hour.
It was the opening league fixture of the season for both clubs.
