Middlesbrough produced a superb second-half performance to beat Millwall 3-0 at The Den, with Hayden Hackney, Alfie Jones and Delano Burgzorg on target to maintain Rob Edwards' side's perfect start to the Championship season. The victory, secured after the interval following a goalless first half, gave Boro back-to-back league wins and a second consecutive clean sheet to open the campaign.
It also ended Millwall's run of five straight home victories stretching back to last season and ensured the visitors opened a league campaign with two wins for the first time since 1994-95, as well as winning their opening away fixture for the first time since 2016. Millwall shaded a lively first half and came within inches of taking the lead, but the momentum swung decisively after the break, with Hackney's opener, a remarkable double-post escape and two late goals shaping the afternoon.
Lions impress before the interval but lack end product
Millwall began on the front foot, repeatedly finding space down their right flank and forcing Middlesbrough onto the back foot without testing the visitors with the regularity their approach play merited. The home side's first clear opening arrived after around 20 minutes when Femi Azeez whipped in a fine cross and picked out Camiel Neghli, only for the Algerian to glance his header off target from a promising position.
