Bolton sign Aston Villa winger Iling-Junior on season-long loan

Bolton Wanderers have signed the Aston Villa winger Samuel Iling-Junior on a season-long loan, the newly-promoted Championship club's ninth signing of the summer.

The 22-year-old joined Villa from Juventus in June 2024 but has not made a competitive appearance for the Premier League club since. A former England Under-21 international, he has had loan spells at Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion, the latter cut short in February when he moved to Pisa in Serie A.

"I spoke to the manager and he understood my journey. That is what attracted me here, to take the next step in my career," Iling-Junior told Bolton's club website.

He follows David Watson, Ben Davies, Akin Famewo, Luca Stephenson, Kyliane Dong and Gaizka Larrazabal into the Toughsheet Stadium this summer. Steven Schumacher said in July that Bolton would have to "look further afield or be creative with some of the deals, maybe with loan deals" given the club's financial constraints.
