Blackburn Rovers arrived knowing a win would guarantee another season of Championship football, and they delivered it with a blistering first half in a 3-1 victory over Sheffield United. Yuki Ohashi struck twice and Ryoyo Morishita scored in between as Rovers turned early urgency into a three-goal lead before the interval.
Sheffield United were far more competitive after the break, especially once Chris Wilder made four substitutions at half-time, and Harrison Burrows pulled a goal back from Tom Cannon's cutback in the 57th minute. Yet Blackburn had already done the hard work, and by the final whistle they had held firm, moved eight points clear of the drop zone and left the home side with a fourth defeat in eight matches.
Early warning signs give way to Blackburn control
The opening seconds suggested Sheffield United might take hold of the game. Cannon, back in the starting line-up, ran on to Gus Hamer's through-ball inside 30 seconds but fired wide. Blackburn also showed their intent almost immediately, though, and Taylor Gardner-Hickman's deep cross had to be palmed away by Adam Davies as both sides revealed a willingness to attack.
