Blackburn Rovers came from behind to beat Middlesbrough 2-1 at Ewood Park on matchday 2 of the Championship season, turning the game around in the second half after conceding early.
Jeremy Sarmiento put Middlesbrough ahead in the 11th minute and the visitors held that lead to half-time. Blackburn levelled three minutes into the second half through Andri Gudjohnsen (48') before Todd Cantwell put the hosts back in front six minutes later (54'), and the score stayed that way to full time.
Five bookings were shown and there were no dismissals. Oladapo Afolayan (23'), Sean McLoughlin (46'), Sam Morsy (57') and Cantwell (75') were cautioned for Blackburn, and Will Lankshear (89') for Middlesbrough. Both sides made a double substitution just before the hour: Middlesbrough sent on Kyle Joseph and Riley McGree in the 59th minute, and Blackburn replied a minute later with Jayden Fevrier and Mathias Jørgensen. Blackburn made two more changes in the 68th minute, and further substitutions from both benches followed through to the 79th minute.
The result lifts Blackburn to sixth in the Championship table on four points from two games, while Middlesbrough drop to 11th on three points after their first defeat of the season.
