Birmingham sign midfielder Max Bird from Bristol City

Birmingham City have signed the midfielder Max Bird from Bristol City for an undisclosed fee. Bird, 25, has agreed a three-year deal at St Andrew's, becoming Chris Davies's sixth signing of the summer transfer window.

Bird made 68 appearances and scored three goals in two seasons at Bristol City after arriving from Derby County, where he played 200 games and captained the club on several occasions.

Bird was one of two Bristol City players, alongside the midfielder Jason Knight, whose contracts were due to run out next summer. Selling him now meant Bristol City avoided losing him for nothing when his deal expired.

He joins a Birmingham squad already strengthened this summer by the striker Luis Vasquez, the defender Dael Fry and the left-back Kristoffer Lund, while the midfielder Jhon Solis's loan was made permanent and the goalkeeper James Beadle re-signed on loan from Brighton.
