Brentford beat Birmingham City 6-1 at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park in round three of the League Cup, eliminating the Championship hosts from the competition and sending Brentford through to the next round.
Callum Wilson put the visitors ahead in the 5th minute, before Demarai Gray levelled for Birmingham in the 27th. Aaron Hickey restored Brentford's lead in the 34th and Nathan Collins made it 3-1 in the 39th. Mikkel Damsgaard added a fourth in the 69th, Igor Thiago (introduced as a 61st-minute substitute) scored a fifth in the 72nd, and Collins completed his brace with a sixth in the 76th.
Brentford's Jannik Schuster (25th minute), Birmingham's Jhon Solís (36th) and Bright Osayi-Samuel (54th) were booked, the only cards of the match; there were no red cards and no VAR interventions. Brentford made five substitutions in all, two of them within the first three minutes of the second half; Birmingham matched that total, with three of their five changes arriving together in the 60th minute.
