Benny Benagr signs new Luton Town contract days after scoring on debut

· News

Winger Benny Benagr has signed a new contract with Luton Town, extending a stay at his hometown club that goes back to their academy's Under-9s level.

The 18-year-old scored his first senior goal on his debut for the Hatters in Saturday's 3-0 Carabao Cup first-round win at Gillingham. Luton have not disclosed the length of his new deal.

"The last few weeks have been a bit crazy, but I've enjoyed it so much and I'm hungry to keep learning," Benagr said.

Luton head coach Jack Wilshere said the goal was not the reason for the new deal. "Benny has dealt with everything that's been thrown at him in recent weeks," he said. "He's taken everything in his stride, and scoring the goal on Saturday was reward for his hard work, but this contract isn't a result of that. It was already in place because he's shown in a very short space of time exactly why the academy coaches rate him so highly."
