Crystal Palace edged their south London rivals Millwall in the Carabao Cup third round at Selhurst Park, debutant goalkeeper Walter Benitez saving two penalties to settle a 4-2 shootout after a 1-1 draw.
Chris Richards had turned home a 72nd-minute opener following a corner before Ryan Leonard's glancing header from Jack Howland's corner in the first minute of added time dragged the Championship side level and forced spot-kicks.
Strong line-ups and an even opening
Oliver Glasner made only four changes from the side that drew with Sunderland on Saturday and handed full debuts to the 32-year-old Benitez, a summer signing from PSV Eindhoven, and teenage French defender Jaydee Canvot, recruited from Toulouse.
