Ben Osborn's stoppage-time goal gave Stockport County a 1-0 victory over Stevenage in the first leg of their League One play-off semi-final at the Lamex Stadium. The midfielder poked the ball home with the final kick of the game after a lapse of concentration by Boro defender Carl Piergianni.
It may have been sixth versus third heading into the tie, but with only two points separating the pair in a tight league table, the contest was always likely to be close. So it proved, with Stockport now favourites to progress ahead of Wednesday's return leg at Edgeley Park.
A tight contest short on clear openings
Stockport's Kyle Wootton, the club's top scorer but playing as a makeshift centre-back, almost opened the scoring from an Ollie Norwood corner in the first minute, but could not guide his header on target. Adama Sidibeh then wasted the first real opening of the game, springing forward on the counter-attack before mistiming his pass to Louie Barry, who would have been in on goal had he connected.
