Barry's deflected winner holds up for Everton as VAR rules out a second and Ipswich lose Fatawu

· Match Report

Everton beat Ipswich Town 1-0 at the Hill Dickinson on Saturday, Thierno Barry's goal in the 10th minute enough to send them into the international break unbeaten after five league games. It was a scrappy afternoon in which the hosts had 21 shots and put only two of them on target.

The winner came off a deflection, and the margin could have been wider: Barry had a second goal ruled out by VAR, and Ipswich were reduced to ten men when Abdul Fatawu was sent off for a second yellow card, shown for diving.

Everton are on nine points from their five Premier League matches, two wins and three draws, and have now kept five clean sheets in their first seven games in all competitions. They do not play in the league again until 11 October, when they face Hull City.
