Arsenal reached the Champions League semi-finals after fighting out a cagey goalless draw with Sporting at the Emirates Stadium, edging through 1-0 on aggregate thanks to Kai Havertz's late goal in Portugal last week. The result sets up a last-four meeting with Atletico Madrid.
Mikel Arteta's side were under huge pressure after a Premier League defeat to Bournemouth and three losses in their previous four matches in all competitions, and although they did not produce a sparkling performance, they did enough to take their place among the final four for a second season in a row.
A nervy Emirates and a knife-edge tie
The home crowd produced a nervy atmosphere as the Gunners defended their slender lead. Arsenal started in an extremely positive manner with hard running and an ultra-intense desire to win duels, but despite seeing more of the ball, they were unable to penetrate a Sporting side defending in a 5-3-2.
