Arsenal cruise past Slavia Prague as Merino double matches 122-year club record

— Match Report

Mikel Merino scored twice as Arsenal comfortably beat Slavia Prague 3-0 in the league phase of the Champions League, extending their winning run to 10 matches in all competitions and going top of the European table.

It was also an eighth successive clean sheet for Mikel Arteta's side, matching a club record set back in 1903 over two different seasons, and made Arsenal the first English team not to concede in their opening four matches of the competition since Leeds United in the 1969-70 European Cup.

Slavia set the early tempo

A determined Slavia Prague side, unbeaten in all domestic competitions coming into the game, made the more encouraging start in a raucous atmosphere. Arsenal were sloppy in possession as the hosts dominated the opening 20 minutes, with Lukas Provod shooting wide from a good area when well placed.
