Harrison Armstrong came off the bench to rescue a point for Preston North End in a pulsating 1-1 draw with Wrexham at Deepdale, capping an afternoon that underlined why both sides are firmly in the Championship play-off conversation. The 18-year-old Everton loanee smashed home from close range nine minutes from time to cancel out Kieffer Moores early opener and ensure the hosts avoided back-to-back home defeats.
In abysmal, rain-swept conditions, the two teams produced a contest their managers later described as a great advert for the division. Wrexham, boasting the Championships meanest defence over November, looked on course for a statement away win after Moore struck his 10th goal of the season, only for Prestons relentless pressure to finally pay off as Wrexhams back line, superb for so long, was breached late on.
The draw keeps Preston fifth in the table and extends their unbeaten run to three games, while Wrexham stretch their own league run without defeat to nine matches but drop to 12th, and are still waiting for a first away league victory since beating Norwich City on 20 September. On the balance of chances, and given the outstanding displays from both goalkeepers, a share of the spoils felt about right.
