Arconte double sends Millwall top as 10-man Norwich sink to second defeat

· Match Report

Taïryk Arconte scored twice on his home debut as Millwall put Championship promotion fancies Norwich City to the sword at The Den, winning 3-0 to move top of the table with two wins from two.

Millwall broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when Josh Coburn's shot was pushed out by Norwich goalkeeper Vladan Kovacevic and Arconte reacted quickest to tap in the rebound. He doubled the lead in the 57th minute, steering a volley into the bottom corner after Jake Cooper headed on Zak Sturge's ball into the box.

Norwich's afternoon worsened in the 63rd minute when José Córdoba, already booked, was sent off for a second yellow card after fouling Arconte as the forward broke toward the box. Playing the last half hour with 10 men, Norwich could not stem the tide, and Millwall's third arrived in the 83rd minute when substitute Luke Cundle, on the pitch for six minutes, finished a swift counterattack teed up by Camiel Neghli.

Millwall finished with 19 shots to Norwich's eight, seven of them on target, and move top of the Championship on six points from two games. Norwich, tipped by some to challenge for the play-offs this season, have lost both their opening fixtures and sit 23rd.
