Jaidon Anthony's spectacular late strike earned Burnley a 2-2 draw against Manchester United, denying Darren Fletcher victory in his first match as United's interim head coach at Turf Moor. The substitute's left-footed blast capped an absorbing contest in which Benjamin Sesko's second-half brace had appeared to turn the game United's way after an Ayden Heaven own goal handed the Premier League strugglers a half-time lead.
Burnley had earlier taken a fortuitous lead when Bashir Humphreys' cross looped into the net via Heaven's unfortunate touch, but United created the better chances throughout and will rue a combination of wasteful finishing, inspired goalkeeping from Martin Dubravka and a disallowed Lisandro Martinez effort. Fletcher's side eventually overturned the deficit after the break, only for Anthony to fire high beyond Senne Lammens and for teenager Shea Lacey to twice go close to snatching a stoppage-time winner in a frenetic finale.
Heaven's misfortune hands Burnley the lead
Burnley's opener owed everything to the sort of slice of fortune that sides fighting at the wrong end of the table gratefully accept. Humphreys' cross from the flank looked relatively harmless until it clipped Ayden Heaven, looping wickedly over Lammens and dropping inside the far post to send Turf Moor into celebration.
