Accrington Stanley and Colchester United shared the points in a 2-2 draw at the Wham Stadium in front of 1,959 as both sides opened their League Two campaign with a point.
Ellis Iandolo put Colchester ahead in the 23rd minute, but Charlie Caton levelled for Accrington five minutes later and struck again right on half-time to send the hosts in front at the break. Rob Hunt restored parity for Colchester in the 59th minute, and neither side found a winner.
Accrington had the better of the chances, finishing with 19 shots to Colchester's 7, nine on target to five, despite Colchester edging possession 50.4% to 49.6%; Accrington also won nine corners to Colchester's four. Accrington's Joe Anderson was booked for a foul in the 88th minute, the game's only card.
Colchester were forced into an early change, Teddy Bishop off injured for Jake Leake inside five minutes; Leake himself made way for Paul Digby at half-time. Accrington's Cole Stockton, Liam Coyle and Alex Henderson and Colchester's Leon Chiwome were the other second-half substitutes.
